5 Steps to Find Balance in Your Life

I've learned that balance is an illusion that doesn't necessarily exist; it's one of those things that we're all trying to achieve, but in reality, it's an illusion. I'm sure you've sat around and said to yourself, "I just don't have time to do this" or "I wish I could go, but I don't have time." At some point, we all have, and usually, it's because we haven't created enough balance in our lives. As someone who does a lot, I find myself trying to find ways to create balance between my career and personal life, but what I'm finding is that while one thing may be a priority, the other is taking a backseat; hence the illusion. Here's the thing; maintaining a healthy life balance is essential for your happiness and well-being. It allows you the ability to focus your attention and energy on achieving your goals by taking action in a meaningful way. Now, a balanced life will look different for each of us because it's about prioritizing what's important to us at that moment and taking steps to change the unstable areas. If you're looking to create some balance in your life, there are small adjustments you can make over time to create a routine that will have you on track for a more balanced life.
Stay on schedule
Creating and staying on schedule sounds easy, but I've found it to be one of the hardest things to do. I've created an agenda, schedule, and to-do list, but rarely stuck to it until I found myself unproductive, overwhelmed, and having little-to-no time for anything. Now, I live by a schedule and plan everything from the time I'm going to wake up to what type of content I'm going to work on throughout the day. If it's not on my calendar, chances are I'm not coming or doing it.
Keeping a schedule will keep you focused and on track and will allow you to balance your time and energy towards those things that are important to you.
Disconnect and say NO
I can't count how many times I've said it here but disconnecting from social media is so important. Because we live in such a social media driven society, we feel the need to be connected at all times, but it's okay to disconnect and be free. Free yourself from the mind clutter of social media, computer, or TV and have real interactions without a device. Give yourself at least one day to be free and disconnect completely.
Also, I've mentioned if it's not on my schedule, I'm not doing it, and while this is the case in most instances, I leave free time to be spontaneous and do what I enjoy with my family and friends. But if I need a break and time to myself or to disconnect, I say NO, and that's okay. If something isn't adding value to your life, opt out!
A while back, I sent out an email to my subscribers about keeping a [positive] tribe and avoiding still people, and that remains true today. Still people are those that are; still complaining, still broke, still insecure; if you have people like this around you, it's time to remove yourself. Because their energy tends to be negative, it will throw off your balance and focus.
Self-care is something we all neglect and when you're overwhelmed and overworked, alone time is something that's unheard of, but it's crucial for balance and your well-being. Give yourself time in your schedule to pray, meditate, write, or workout—whatever brings peace and a calm to your spirit. I've made it a point to wake up early every day so I can have time to myself with no distractions; this lowers your stress and increases productivity and happiness.
Because I'm so focused on building my career and personal life, I'm guilty of eliminating fun from the balance of life, but it's important for us to have fun to avoid burnouts and anxiety. With the weight of adulthood, it's okay to laugh, joke, and play; get back to doing what you enjoyed as a kid, sometimes that's all the balance you need.
Finding balance isn't easy and as I said, an illusion, but with these subtle changes you can find balance in your life and focus on what's important.
