Apple and Pumpkin Picking + Apple Tart

Our yearly tradition of heading down the Garden State Parkway to our favorite family owned farm; Eastmont Orchards, always gets me ready for the Fall and the holidays. We've been coming to this farm to pick apples and pumpkins since I was a teen, and now that I'm an adult and godfather I get to share these memories with my godchildren and in-laws. I remember it was just my mom and me taking the drive and enjoying the change of colors along the freeway, and we are both happy that we get to experience this with a larger part of our family.

Entry to the farm is free, and plastic bags for apple picking are provided for free as well. The great thing about this farm is you only pay for what you pick, and it's all done by weight, pumpkins included. This year we explored more of the grounds (in search of my moms' favorite apple that she couldn't find) so, we got to see how well kept the farm is. Before heading home, we keep with our same tradition of stopping at the family market, Delicious Orchards. They are a gourmet grocery store specializing in fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as fresh baked goods. This year I wasn't able to get any of my favorite baked goods because of my gluten and dairy allergy, but I created an apple tart from the apples we picked, the recipe is below.

The grounds at Eastmont Orchard is perfect, it's hard to believe something like this is in Jersey.

My godchildren are getting so big (1 is missing, she's running getting apples for me!), I can't believe it! I don't get to see them often, but I cherish every moment spent with them.

We grab so many apples that it's only right to bake something. While at the farm, I filled a bag with Golden Delicious apples which are perfect for baking; they have a good balance of sweetness and tartness. Since I was not able to buy any treats at the Delicious Orchards Market (they don't have a gluten-free dairy-free selection), I decided to make something for myself to enjoy after Sunday dinner. This apple tart is perfect for anyone who doesn't have a baking thumb or if you're just looking for a quick sweet treat to enjoy; the recipe can be modified in any way that fits your needs.
