Guide to Creating a Home-Office on a Budget
If you've been following my Instagram or past few post then you already know I recently moved. In my new space, I was finally able to set-up a small home-office. I am so excited to have a space where I can dedicate time to writing and creating content. I haven't had a desk since I lived at home and having one now has helped me stay focused. I'm an organized person and hate a ton of clutter and stuff, so when I started to create my space, I wanted to make sure I kept it clean and slightly minimal.
Finding furniture is always difficult for me, and it usually takes me weeks to find the perfect piece. This desk from Target is exactly what I wanted, and it was only $49.99 (you can get it this week on sale!). It's very simple and clean and has a center drawer that allows me to hide my paperwork. I ordered the desk on-line, and it arrived within days; assembly was quick and easy as well! I knew what kind of chair I wanted, but wasn't able to find it. This past weekend, we made a Target run, and there it was! It flows with the clean look that I wanted to keep, and was only $39!
I love inspirational quotes and spirituality, so I knew I had to add it to my workspace. I found the inspiration block at Barnes & Noble, and it's the perfect piece to remind me to stay focused on myself. I received both the beautiful Buddha head (from India) and journal as gifts from my best friend. The candle is from Target and lamp from IKEA, both easy pieces that add some light to the area.
Finishing off my workspace area is a pen holder I also found at Target and a fun jewel box I found at Pier 1. The jeweled box adds a cultural element that ties back to the Indian Buddha head. One of my favorite gifts this past year was this custom mug from another great friend. I use it daily as a little reminder to stay positive and to always choose joy - the inside of the mug has a heart; how cute is that?! And lastly, what's a desk without a picture of the one you love! This picture and frame was a favor from a friends wedding.
In addition to my desk items, I hung two different types of boards; both were found at Bed Bath & Beyond. I love leaving myself messages and reminders of what needs to get done, and this $15 dry erase board does the trick; the cork side makes it perfect for pinning more notes and reminders. I have a big vision board that I created on foam board, but this memo board will be used for me to post my daily inspirations.
If you have a budget to stick to, these items combined were under $200! What are some of your favorite office items? Let me know in the comments section below!
