We often hear that consistency is the key to success but is it the only key? Over the past few weeks, things have been shifting and changing; I was laid off from my job, I'm moving, and I've ended a few long-term friendships. With all of those adjustments, I found that it became harder for me to remain consistent and keep up with the demands of my schedule, including creating content—the results showed. Initially, I beat myself up over it because my career wasn't growing at the rate I'd like it too, but I quickly realized, I wasn't doing the [consistent] work for it to grow. So, how could I expect the results; this is true for weight loss or any other results-driven program; consistency is the ONLY key to seeing positive results and achieving success. Here's why.
Consistency allows you to form [positive] habits that others don't have. When you're consistent, you create systems and processes to get the work done, but it can be a double-edged sword. Habits occur through a process called 'context-dependent repetition;' this is where you'll form and strengthen the mental links between your response to an action and the context it takes place. Think of your routine, it becomes one, because over time it mentally strengthens and becomes a focal point of your day; routines or habits take 21-30 days to form or break. Also, to be consistent means you're able to focus on the present moment while maintaining a long-term view that helps you measure results on your daily actions. With this feedback, you'll be able to learn from your mistakes and alter the course of actions that are required.
Even with consistency being the only key to success, there are other factors to being successful, and that includes believing in yourself, having determination, and VALUE—results aside. I can admit, this is something I've struggled with (and sometimes still do), and I believe we all do from time-to-time. Because we live in such a results driven society, we look for instant and immediate gratification, when you don't receive it, you begin to doubt and beat yourself up over it. When it comes to determination, if you're not determined, you will never be successful. Many of you are working a 9-5 while working on your side hustle, and finding that inner determination to keep going can be difficult, trust me I've been there. I've found that when you set time aside and stick to your schedule, you'll be able to find that determination to keep going. Also, results come from providing value, so if you aren't consistently giving value, it is less likely to achieve a high level of success.
Success is a state of mind, and everyone has their [own] idea of what success is. Allow yourself to be imperfect, and find the inner strength to keep going and be determined, remain consistent in your work and voice, and the results will show.
