Last Minute Ways to Enjoy the 4th Of July
The 4th of July is America's birthday and is as American as apple pie, but if you're like me, you fail to plan what you're going to do for the 4th until the very last minute. Most of the plans include being outdoors - I mean it is Summer - but if you still don't know what to do, here are six fun last minute ways to enjoy the 4th of July.
My favorite thing about the 4th are the fireworks, but if you're in a major city, getting to see the big show is usually impossible, unless you get there hours early. So, check your local neighborhood parks; most towns offer a small version of the big show that are just as fun.
Summer is the perfect time for intimate picnics, and the 4th of July is a great day to spend in the park. Everyone is usually off at a BBQ or heading into the city to watch the fireworks so, grab your basket and blanket and have a small picnic in the park. Also, if you're planning to watch your local fireworks this is a great way to grab your spot early and have a romantic night under the fireworks.
BBQs during the Summer and on the 4th are a given, but I'm finding that many people aren't having BBQs like they used to. Get back to this tradition of throwing a BBQ with your friends and family. It doesn't have to be a massive one; hamburgers and hotdogs with a fun water gun fight will do the trick.
One of the hidden secrets in retail is that the 4th of July is one of the best times to shop. In July, many retailers are transitioning their Spring/Summer merchandise to Fall. So, many Summer styles are marked down, and you'll be able to find some good sales during the weekend.
Like a picnic in the park, this is another good time to head to the beach. Likely to be crowded, this is a good place to catch the fireworks or have some fun on the pier/boardwalk.
I love carnivals and fairs, and they usually begin around the 4th. If you're in the NY/NJ area, check out 'The State Fair at the Meadowlands'. Always tons of fun, and a great way to let your inner child loose.
