Laurel DeWitt A/W 16 - Fashion Show Review
Thursday was the close of New York Fashion Week and that evening I ended up at 1 Oak to see Laurel DeWitt's A/W 16 collection. Continuing to push the limits, DeWitt presented a collection that incorporated new materials; denim, leather, and knits. While these fabrics aren't new to us, they are new to her designs. The uniqueness of Laurel's designs are evident, more so than ever; hand-distressed leather and denim are intertwined with metal chains, and the juxtaposition of leather and metal was softened by the appliqué of metal flowers. I was thrilled to see her incorporate menswear into the collection; one of the standout pieces being the denim on denim with metal appliqué and fur trim. Laurel has made a significant impression in the industry with her innovative hand-made metal designs; she recently created a custom piece for Beyoncé (see below). Every time I see the craftsmanship of Laurel's work, I am left speechless.
