Facial hair has been a major focus for some time, and it isn't slowing down anytime soon. And while trends come and go, and styles vary each season, men are caring more and have an increased interest in their appearance and grooming routine. To keep you on trend throughout 2017, below are the hair and beard trends, and how you can maintain each.

Shaved Heads

::Cue the scene of Frank shaving his head on this seasons #HTGAWM:: Shaved heads can be a severe look, but as we saw on the 2017 menswear runway, this look is returning in both a sophisticated and goth way. Going short is about simplicity and gives way to effortlessness while channeling a bad boy mentality.

How to maintain

When it comes to getting a super-smooth bald head, go with the grain, never against it. Going against the grain will cause unwanted irritation and razor bumps. Also, ensure you're applying a moisturizing aftershave that will rehydrate the skin and reduce your chances of irritation.

Clean and polished to perfection, this classic British hair style reflects the elegant, intelligent, and accomplished man. In 2017, this versatile look will work for both men and boys.

How to maintain

The key to this look is to keep product to a minimum; add volume and definition while adding height and texture.

Length

If you're patient enough to go through the painful and sometimes ugly process of growing your hair out, a longer-length is for you. The untamed wildness of shoulder length hair can be free and easy if your desired look is rocker chic, but if you want to keep it tame, a loose knot or slick-backed man bun can be your go-to.

How to maintain

Daily conditioning for your hair type is key if you're going for a longer-length. Before shampooing, use a wide-tooth comb to remove any knots or tangles, and ensure you're cleaning with warm water and products that are specific for your hair.

Back Comb

Mad Men meets LA surfer for this traditional slick backed cut we've become familiar with over the years.; this tapered cut is based on loose waves heightened by sea-salt to create a style that is natural and defined.

How to maintain

Use a sea-salt spray and a blow-dryer to create a style that is natural and free-flowing. To avoid a weighted look, keep the product to a minimum and opt for a thick part; this will create balance and definition.

Mid-Length

Neil Barrett

Taking cues from the 70's and the 90's grunge era; this messy mid length style is for the very relaxed guy with a creative edge. While this look may be too carefree for the average guy, it's perfect if you're in between growth and looking for a more durable style.

How to maintain

Similar to the length and back comb style, you should be using products that are designed for your hair type and following the same washing routine.

If you participated in No Shave November and carried that into December, you're probably on your way to a full beard. Full beards have grown over the years, and this year it isn't going anywhere—they'll be bigger and better.

How to maintain

Make regular trips to your barber to ensure you're keeping its shape and grain; use a beard oil and palm to keep it neat.

To add solid definition and contrast to your jawline; this square and faded style is for you. Pleasing to most men; this style is for the guy who likes to have a masculine jawline.

How to maintain

Same as a full beard, it's recommended to make regular trips to your barber to keep your lines clean and fresh.

Short and Tight

Think five o'clock shadow for this beard style; it's not quite a full beard and longer than stubble. If you want to change from your full beard style, most guys trim down to this.

How to maintain

To keep the hair soft and healthy, maintain it with a daily beard oil; this will not only add some shine but have you smelling good as well.

Full Mustache

One of the more high maintenance styles is the mustache. This style is classic and requires work to grow and maintain, but if you have the patience to do so, a freshly shaved face and mustache is your way to go.

How to maintain

It's best to keep your face freshly shaved and your mustache neat and trim; grab yourself a pair of mustache scissors and comb. You can also use a mustache wax to keep longer styles in place.

Self-explanatory and the most popular of all the styles is a freshly shaved face, free of any hair. A clean shave requires more work and maintenance than any of the other styles but is the most classic and sophisticated of all.

How to maintain

Grab yourself the best shave system you can find to avoid any razor irritation or bumps. Keeping your skin clean and moisturized is key; when shaving always go with the grain and ensure you are rehydrating your skin after each shave.
