Menswear Recap [AMAs 2015 Red Carpet]
The 2015 American Music Awards kicked off last night, and like all the awards shows this season, they were a complete bore. Aside from JLo's dope (yes, I said dope) opening performance (in DSqaured2), nothing else seemed to keep my attention. I tuned into the red carpet, and there were a few winners (Ciara in Reem Acra), but I wasn't jumping for joy over the guys. Where are our fellas at that are pushing the limits on the carpet? Below are a few of the looks I paid attention too.
Tweet or comment me your thoughts from the show!
When Nick first hit the carpet, I was in love with his monochromatic look. Wearing a Topman suit and tonal gray turtleneck, his look is on trend and very classic. However, his style of shoe is heavy and isn't cohesive with his overall look. I would have liked to see an ankle boot or wing-tip boot; this would have pulled the look together, and Nick would have been my best dressed of the night.
When Justin hits the carpet, I can't help but to think Instagram. If we look back at his VMA look, he looks like an Instagram model, and again he's giving the same look. Wearing a printed Fear of God Nirvana t-shirt layered over an elongated t-shirt, and Amiri distressed denim; I'm bored. His look is very pedestrian, and I'd like to see him elevate his style.
The guys of One Direction hit the carpet to a ton of screams and fanfare. Boy bands have always hit the carpet with matching outfits, but One Direction is known for their individual style. While they should be more cohesive in their looks, I appreciate that each member is able to showcase their individuality. Members Liam, Niall, and Louis kept their looks classic; Liam in Burberry, Niall in Paul Smith, and Louis in Sandro. Harry took a step forward wearing S/S 16 Gucci; the look is feminine, and on trend for retro-70's.
Charlie is a young artist, and I love that he brought some color to the carpet. Not an AMA look, I appreciate that he stepped outside the box and wore a pink tweed suit from ACNE.
If you've been watching Wiz Khalifa on carpets, you'd know that his past looks are usually messy. However, Wiz got it right this time. I loved his use of texture in this deep navy velvet blazer that he paired with a solid black tuxedo pant. The fit and high ankle hem is very European and pulled the entire look together for me.
I couldn't talk about the red carpet without talking about Tyrese. Tyrese looked dapper in this navy tuxedo, but the show stopper was his beautiful daughter! Little mama hit the runway in a textured dress with sheer shoulder detail and a popped red lip. Too adorable! Tyrese's look was a bit too sophisticated for the AMAs, but I recognize that his is a 'grown man', and letting the younger generation shine.
